Water & Flood Incident Management

This course (accredited by Rescue 3 INTERNATIONAL) is designed to meet the need for incident commanders at water and flood incidents to have the underpinning knowledge and skills to successfully manage such operations.  Whilst it is not envisaged that such managers will have the same level of technical knowledge and skills as specialist water rescue teams it is imperative that managers have a level of specific knowledge to be able to manage the event plus sufficient personal skills and experience to safely operate in the ‘warm’ zone at these incidents.

Key Audience

Individuals who will manage teams of responders and rescuers at water and flood incidents in particular Bronze/Silver Fire, Police and Ambulance service incident commanders, mountain rescue team leaders and coastguard team leaders.  The course will also be highly beneficial to those holding a managerial position within other Cat 1 response agencies and LRF members

The course will fulfil the training requirements as outlined in the proposed Module 6 (Water Incident Management) of the UK F&RS.

Course Aims

The principle aims of this course are to:

· Provide the knowledge and skills required to manage water and flood incidents

· Provide knowledge and judgement to be able to operate safely in a managerial role at water and flood rescues

· Provide understanding of the capabilities of specialist water rescue teams and assets

· Develop an appreciation of the problems of major flood events and specialist management tools that can be utilised

Course Duration

4 days including 1 night exercise.

Delivery

The course will combine both theory and practical elements.  The course is not designed to create technical rescuers but rather to develop the skills and knowledge to enable personnel to manage such incidents whilst remaining safe themselves when operating in the ‘warm’ zone at a water or flood incident.
